Precautionary measures
Beware of fraud
Université Laval wishes to warn international applicants about a fraud attempt using Université Laval’s name in some countries.
This attempted fraud involves emails indicating that Université Laval offers scholarships that cover education expenses for international students to study in Canada.
The emails also mention Université Laval partner organizations. The fraudsters request a sum of money or various documents from the applicant. They use the official Université Laval logo, produce counterfeit documents (forms, certificates, etc.), and fraudulently and maliciously promote these scholarships.
Attempted fraud using the name of Université Laval also occurs on websites or social media.
To avoid becoming a victim of this scheme, please read the following information carefully.
Scholarships
Only Université Laval and Fondation de l’Université Laval are authorized to award scholarships to international applicants.
No organizations outside Université Laval or Fondation de l'Université Laval are authorized to award academic scholarships to students on behalf of the university. Furthermore, all email communication from the university to future students will be through an email address ending in @ulaval.ca. No other email addresses are valid.
Caution!
Some fraudsters are able to disguise their email address with the ulaval.ca domain name. To verify the validity of the email address, make sure the reply email address always uses the ulaval.ca domain name.

Admission assistance
No outside organization, representative, agency, or firm may handle your application for admission to Université Laval or guarantee your acceptance.
All Université Laval applicants must personally complete the application process directly through the Registrar’s Office. Your acceptance is based solely on the quality of your academic record and other required documentation.
Paying a representative or intermediary for admission assistance is futile; it will not increase your chances of admission.
You must submit your application online or by using the official admission forms that can be downloaded from Université Laval Website.
International representatives
International representatives of Université Laval are always identified by the name of the organization.
If you meet with Université Laval representatives in your country, make sure they are actually properly identified university employees. Université Laval does not do business with any service or intermediary that could increase the chances of admission for international students.
To help you identify official representatives, remember that all Université Laval employees and representatives, even abroad, use an email address with the ulaval.ca domain name. Therefore, you should avoid any contact with representatives who email you from a Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, or other email address.
Caution!
Some fraudsters are able to disguise their email address with the ulaval.ca domain name. To verify the validity of the email address, make sure the reply email address always uses the ulaval.ca domain name.
Québec’s Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie (MRIF) has set up a study information centre in Dakar. Only staff from this centre or from Université Laval are authorized to represent our university to Senegalese candidates. Please confirm whether the person or organization contacting you is legitimate before you respond.
Representative’s name: Iyane Gaye (Iyane.Gaye@mri.gouv.qc.ca)
