Bruno Bourassa is recognized both in Québec and internationally for his research in the fields of andragogy and psychosociology. The laurels he has received in teaching and research attest to a fruitful and varied career that does credit to Université Laval and the Faculty of Education. His contributions go beyond academia, through his involvement with numerous practitioners throughout the education and the helping professions.

Knowledge sharing

Bruno Bourassa has been deeply involved in knowledge dissemination and sharing throughout his career. He has authored or co-authored more than 85 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters as well as articles in professional journals and research reports. He has co-edited six multiauthor books. He has also given, alone or with peers, more than 130 presentations and lectures in Québec and internationally, including in France, Switzerland, and Belgium, and has contributed to organizing various knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Professor Bourassa has also worked with a large number of graduate students, leaving his mark on several generations of education and guidance professionals as well as future researchers. He has supervised 73 major papers and 5 master’s theses, co-supervised 6 doctoral dissertations, and reviewed some 40 master’s theses and doctoral dissertations. He has also supervised numerous fellowships, course, and intervention report–writing workshop sections.

As director of undergraduate counselling studies from 2002 to 2008, he made an outstanding contribution to undergraduate program development and took part in a review of graduate programs. He has also played an important role as a member of several working committees within the university.

Even in retirement, Bruno Bourassa continues to put his expertise to work. He provides training and consulting services for academic colleagues, decision makers, educators, and coaches in various areas. A book and a multiauthor volume are also scheduled for release in the coming year.

Advancing a field of study

Through his extensive work, Professor Bourassa has made tremendous contributions to his field, which addresses issues of socioprofessional integration, the construction of experiential knowledge, and the support practices used by education and psychosocial intervention specialists. He has received more than 30 research grants and sponsorships as lead or co-lead researcher, primarily as an affiliated member of CRIEVAT – Centre de recherche et d’intervention sur l’éducation et la vie au travail (Centre for Research and Intervention in Education and Work Life).

His colleagues hold him in high regard, and he has been much sought after both for his personal qualities and for the fields he specializes in, which have also led to a series of collaborations with professors from European universities. The important contributions he has made through numerous community-based participatory research projects have brought generated new scientific knowledge and improved practices.

Alongside his work as a researcher and teacher, he was from 2011 to 2021 active with SPUL – Syndicat des professeurs et professeures de l’Université Laval as a member of the committee for the application of the collective agreement, thus helping establish a work environment conducive to well-being and collaboration.

We recognize Bruno Bourassa for his concrete and lasting contributions to the development and reputation of Université Laval, particularly in the broader field of education sciences.
